Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Policy

Purpose

Calgary Basketball Academy (CBA) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment that aligns with the values, policies, and expectations of Basketball Alberta and Canada Basketball. This policy supports the principles outlined in the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) and Canada’s Safe Sport framework.

Statement of Commitment

CBA is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of its programs and operations. We believe participation in basketball should be free from discrimination, harassment, and exclusion, and that all individuals deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

Scope

This policy applies to all participants involved in CBA activities, including athletes, coaches, officials, staff, volunteers, parents/guardians, and spectators.

Equity & Inclusion Principles

CBA is committed to providing equitable access and opportunities for participation without discrimination on the basis of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, nationality, ethnic origin, citizenship, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital or family status, disability, socio-economic status, or any other protected ground under applicable human rights legislation.

Respectful Environment

All members of the CBA community are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that demonstrates respect, fairness, and integrity. Discriminatory, harassing, or exclusionary behaviour will not be tolerated and will be addressed in accordance with CBA policies, Safe Sport principles, and governing body regulations.

Accessibility & Accommodation

CBA will make reasonable efforts to accommodate the needs of participants to support inclusion and meaningful participation, consistent with applicable legislation and the policies of Basketball Alberta and Canada Basketball.

Education & Responsibility

CBA is committed to ongoing education and awareness to promote inclusive practices. Coaches, staff, and volunteers are expected to model inclusive leadership and uphold this policy at all times.

Reporting & Resolution

Any concerns or complaints related to discrimination, harassment, or inequitable treatment should be reported to CBA leadership. All matters will be handled in a timely, confidential, and respectful manner in alignment with Safe Sport procedures and applicable governing body policies.

Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure ongoing alignment with Basketball Alberta, Canada Basketball, and Safe Sport requirements, and to support continuous improvement in fostering an inclusive basketball environment.
