For Spring programs, a prorated refund is provided in the event of a season-ending injury. All other refund requests are reviewed case by case. CBA is a not-for-profit organization and is not in the business of keeping fees if the program is not the right fit.
Please note that CBA makes upfront investments in clothing packages and tournaments. For Spring refund inquiries, contact info@calgarybasketball.ca.
There are no refunds for tryouts.
Teams are formed with a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 12 players. Team budgets are built accordingly. Teams with more players have larger budgets for training and games, while teams with fewer players generally result in more playing time for athletes.
Yes. CBA operates with full financial transparency. All registration fees go directly to the athlete’s team and are not used to subsidize other teams. Teams run on a break-even model, and parents may request full access to their team’s expenses at any time.
CBA has no salaried employees—coaches receive a modest honorarium only.
Registration fees include:
Over 50 hours of training
A clothing package
A game uniform to keep
Coaches’ honorariums
League play and tournament participation
Each team has $4,000 allocated toward games (league, tournament, or exhibition). Coaches work with parents to determine the best schedule for the team.
Cash calls only occur if a team chooses to participate in additional activities, such as out-of-town tournaments. These costs may include coaches’ travel, hotels, or airfare.
All cash calls are communicated in advance with a detailed breakdown of expenses.
CBA supports long-term athlete development and encourages multi-sport participation, especially for athletes 15U and younger. Due to limited gym availability, practices cannot be adjusted for other sports; however, CBA publishes its 3-month practice schedule by early February to help families plan ahead.
CBA does not roster players who are unable to play. Spring basketball is a developmental environment, not a win-at-all-costs program.
There are no provincial rankings or championships in Alberta club basketball. All rostered players play in every game, except in cases of injury or discipline.
Yes. All roster spots are earned through tryouts. While athletes may have different strengths, all players selected for a team are of comparable overall skill level. CBA does not accept players simply to fill rosters or collect fees.

All coaches follow Basketball Canada’s curriculum, and CBA provides free Canada Basketball certification training. Head coaches are assigned to one team only, ensuring full commitment to athlete development.
